Hi, welcome to the series of Jasper's software posts. In this video, we are going to see the basics of parameters in Jasper's software design studio. The agenda for this session is firstly, I will walk you through water parameters and their properties. Then we take a look at the types of parameters and finally we will see an example on how to use a single-circ parameter in a repo. Let's get started. Water parameters in the Jasper's software studio. Parameters are basically where this pass to the A-people at runtime. Parameters are generally used in the warehouse of an SQL statement or in the report expressions. Let's see what are the properties of a parameter. Every parameter that we create in a repo will get a name, class, description, checkbox option for ease for prompting, default value expression and the evaluation time. Now, let's take a look at the types of parameters in the studio. For software, there are single-circ parameter which we represent with dollar P, multi-circ parameter which we represent with dollar X and it also provides a special parameter and that we represent with dollar P, not. Now, let us take a look at the example on how to use a single-circ parameter in a repo. Let's take the scenario of product details report which will take brand name as an input. So now it is time to create a repo in the Jasper's software studio. Let's start with creating a blank report from file, new, Jasper repo. Then from the report template select blank A4, then click on next. Let's save the report with the name of param single select product details filter type brand name. Let's save its under Jasper reports 2021 project folder. Then select the reports folder which I have already created. Click on next and from the data adapter drop down select the put mod database. Let's keep giving the query here. Later we will come back to the query editor and we will supply product related for click on next then click OK. Then click finish. Now we have ready with the design space of the repo. Now in the PG admin SQL editor query the product table such that it is filtered with the brand name. For example, I have taken select sharp from product where brand name equal Washington. So this is the core of this session for parameters. In the web class we are providing Washington as an input for brand name. So the product details will get filtered with the Washington brand name. So let's execute this query here and check for the records. So this product table has got product class ID product ID brand name product name and several other fields that we can see here. So we can click on this data set and create a dialog box here and just paste that query. So let's take the right query. So we need to ensure that the data source is selected from the top left corner here. So we have taken put one database for demonstration purposes and the language type must be SQL then click on read fields. So in the bottom space of the editor we can see the field and class types are recovered from the database. Scroll down a bit then click on dot of review and then click on refresh preview dot. Then click OK. Now from the hierarchical view of the report from the outline select fields expanded select product ID then product name then grass weight net weight. So let's take these fields for our product details report. Drag on them to detail ban and let's quickly format this report to not to have any empty spaces or remove the unnecessary bans from the design. So we can right click on the ban names and choose this delete option to delete a particular ban. So we need to have title ban let's quickly give a title to this report. We give the same name that we created for the report here. Give the same name here. Select all of them and quickly quickly arrange this horizontally, hot equal and horizontally and vertically middle and then quickly format this one. Let's give border to all of these text objects. Multicellular all of them then click on properties then select borders. Click on this all options save the report. Now we have the grid like report ready with us. Now we are going to see the core part of this session which is single parameter. Now from the outline view select the parameter. Now right click on it and then click on create parameter. By default we can see parameter one is get created with string type. So let's rename it to a meaningful parameter name pattern brand name. Select this again then click on the query editor in the studio. So in the previous step we have created the parameter the same parameter gets gets up here on the parameter steps in the bottom here. So we just need to click on this parameter step and if we can scroll down to the bottom we can see the same parameter is available in this area. So now we are going to replace this Washington value of the brand name. This is a hot coded value. Now we are going to replace this hot coded value with the parameter. So just select the parameter brand name and drop it on to the area of hot coded value. Then remove this one then click OK. We are done. Let's preview this report. Click on preview button in the bottom here then click on run button. So we haven't provided any default value for the parameter so far. Let's take any of the value from the product table for brand name. So I have this query here. Select the distinct brand name from product order by order by brand name in the ascending order. This will bring up this will bring us the list of the brand names from the product table. So just hit click on hit button. We can see several brand names are available in the product table. Scroll down all the way to the bottom and let's take this Washington value for brand name. So copy and paste it here. Let's just remove the double course then click on the run button. We can see the product details table report here. We have got one page of the output. Now this report output just looks fine to me. Let's try to give other value for the brand name parameter. So we'll just click on this parameter show option and let's replace this Washington with some other value from the from the database here. For example, I'm taking a DJ as the brand name. Let's replace this Washington with the adj then click on run button again. So now we can see the output is varying from the previous run to this run. That means we made the report dynamic by supplying a single select parameter. Now what if you want to display the what if you want to display the parameter name onto the title band. So we just need to adjust the height of this title band and select the param brand name and drag it on to the title band just beneath to the title of the report. So let's quickly format this one. And let's give it a label name. So the label should be something like branding in this case. So let's quickly align the horizontal and vertical positions of the parameter name. Borders from the left side it should be fine and let's give the left alignment. Now if we run this report we could we would see the parameter name will be get the parameter will get displayed under the title of the report. Let's quickly preview this one with the adj value. So we already have adj for the brand name just run on this one. So now we can see the parameter is displayed just beneath to the title of the report. So basically this is how we can make use of single select parameter in a Jasper report. I hope you're a bit clearer on what we saw today. That's all about this session.
