Thank you for joining me for this video working with Solutions. For Servoy University, I'm Bob Q. Sick. We're going to talk about how to create a new solution in Servoy. There's a number of different ways. You can create a solution from scratch. You can check out a solution from the Servoy repository, or you can open up a solution from an SBN or team sharing provider. Let's start by creating a new solution manually. As you can see over here, there's no active solution. On the All Solutions node, right-click, and choose Create New Solution. Give a solution a name. I'm going to call this one My First Solution. And then you choose the solution type. There's Normal, a Module, Web Client Only, Smart Client Only, and a Login Type of Solution. So a Normal solution is one that can be opened in the Smart Client or the Web Client. A Module does not show up on the interface or the Open Dialog. A Module is usually just meant for code that you're going to include within one or more solutions. When you mark a solution as Web Client Only, it will only show up on the Web Opening Page. If you choose Smart Client Only, it won't show up on the Web Opening Page, but it will show up from the Open Dialog in the Smart Client. And finally, Login is a special type of a solution. This is for security authentication only. We'll talk more about setting up your security and creating a Login solution in a future video. The next option you have is to choose which resources project you want to use. Because you can create solutions that have different types of resources. They have different servers, different styles, different I-18-N files. You can choose to have multiple resource files. In this case, we're going to just create a new resource to project called Resources. When you're ready to go, click Finish. And now, Sir Voice created the solution for you. As you can see over here, in the Solution Explorer, my first solution is the currently selected solution. And now within All Solutions folder, I have this solution called my first solution. This little dimmed S icon means that it is the currently active solution. It's the one that you're looking at right now. So now that we have our core solution built, we don't have any forms or anything in this thing. It's just a blank solution holder. So let's create a new form by right-clicking on the forms node and say create new form. Again, start off by giving the form a name, my first form. Then you can choose the table that the form is based on. So here I can choose any database connection that I have. I'm going to choose example data. And then I'm going to choose the customers form and click OK. The next property is the extends property. This is so that you can do form reuse and make a slightly different version of a different form. But since this is our first form, we're going to keep that to none. Next, there's a style. So you can have multiple different styles defined at the solution level inside of your resources folder. And you can reuse those style sheets on different forms in your solution. So if you have three or four different styles of forms, you can have three or four different types of styles. Same thing goes with templates. If you predefined some templates with body part sizes or things in range a certain way, you can use that as a starting point for your form. And finally, the solution, my first solution. This is so that if you have modules that are included inside of this particular solution, you can create forms directly in those other modules. Everything looks OK here. So I'm going to click the next button. Now this gives me a list of all of the columns that are in that table. So I can go ahead and shift select to choose more than one field. I can control select to choose discontinuous selections. So I'm going to pick a few fields here. And I'm going to choose to place them with labels. You can also make these text labels by using the Places Labels option. And you can fill out the text property. So this will automatically give them a text property or a name property. And you can also choose to place them horizontally across the form instead of vertically. The default is vertical. So this looks good. Now I'm going to click Finish. And here I have the completed form. It's got all of the fields on it for me. You can see I have the grid background. And I can now click on these individual objects. And over here, let's make this a little wider. Over here, as I click on different objects, you'll see that the property palette is changing based on the type of object that I've clicked on. Also notice here that forms now has a dropdown. So under forms, my first form. And because it's the form that we're looking at right now, it's highlighted in yellow. And within my first form, now there are several other objects that all forms contain. First thing is a controller. Controllers know how to do things on the form. So if you're going to find or search or focus a field, all of those things are done at the controller level. Then there's variables. You can have form variables that are local to only this form. So this is really handy rather than making global variables for everything. If you need variables just for the scope of this particular form that really don't apply to anything else, you can add them here in this variables node. Then there's elements. These are all of the named elements. I haven't given any of the fields or labels a name. To do that, you click on the object itself. Go to the name property and I'll give this one FLD address. All right, so now once you've given it a name and you save by clicking the icon or using control S. And you click on the elements node. And because I've given it a name, field address shows up in that list. Once I click on FLD address, I can programmatically control the way that that field looks. And I can get and set information about it. The general is if you can access an object at runtime, give it a name. Next is the selected record. So the selected record is an object that knows about what the values of the data in all the columns here. You can see all of the columns in the table. And finally, there's a node for relations. There are no relationships that are set up yet. If they're aware they would show up underneath the relations node. So those are all of the objects that are common to forms. There's a lot of other things that are common to all solutions such as globals. You have the current controller, which you may have multiple forms in your solution all based on different tables. And rather than saying that you explicitly want to access an object on a specific form, you can say for the current controller making you record to delete the record, do a find, etc. The next is variables. These are global variables. Global variables are in-memory variables that are alive as long as the client session is alive. And they're unique for every client session, every client gets their own copy of these global variables. And again, we have a relations or global relations node. And the relations that show up in this node are the ones that have a global variable on the left hand side. Basically, these are live dynamic relationships. So you can create a variable based a relationship on it. And as you change the value in the variable, the data that gets returned also changes. Down here, we have a node for all of the relations in the whole solution. Value lists that you can use for pop up menus, checkboxes, radio buttons, all the media that's within the solution. And any modules that are part of the solution. Okay, going back up here. So we see that all solutions contain my first solution. And my first solution then contains my first form. It can have many different forms. It can have variables and relations and all kinds of great stuff in it. So that's one way to create a solution is by creating a new one from scratch. The next way is you can check a solution out of a repository. A repository is simply a special, servoy set of databases that's referred to from the database connection called repository server. So here this is running on my local machine. And by default, when you first install servoy, the servoy repository server is installed. And there are some sample solutions in there that you can check out into your local workspace. Remember, all of the files, even all of the files that are made up in this first solution, my first solution, are stored locally on my hard drive. So to check something out of a repository, right click all solutions and say, check out from servoy repository. When you do that, you'll see a server address. If you have your servoy repository running on a different machine, you can put in the IP address, put in the username and password. That's an admin username and password. And you'll see a list of the solutions. I'm not going to do that. I'm going to check out a solution from my local set of files. So I'm going to click next. And now this is a listing of all of the solutions that are in the servoy repository by default. So I'm going to check this servoy sample CRM. I'm going to expand the node. And I can see that there's one version of this. And there's something called head. So the head version is the most recent version. You can choose to check out specific revisions of any solution. But I'm going to choose the latest one and say head. Once I click head, then you click finish. And servoy will go ahead and go out to the repository. And it will pull out all of the information about that solution and write them to your local hard drive. So let's click finish. All right. After a few seconds, the voice done checking it out. And if I come down here now and take a look, there's a servoy sample CRM as well as SVY Core. And now I have my first solution that I created and notice how that's now closed and the servoy sample CRM and servoy core are in that dimmed S icon. As you can see, let me make this a little bit wider. As you can see, there's a number of different forms in this solution. And this solution even contains another module which is servoy core. We'll talk more about modules in a future video. If we click on the actual solution itself, you'll notice over here on the right hand side that there are properties of a solution like there are properties of forms, there are properties of fields and labels. Some of those properties are the events. There's an on close event on data broadcast on error and on open. So these events get fired when the solution is closed, when the data is about to be broadcast, when there's an error and when it before it opens or as it's opening, you can choose to attach your own methods that will fire and trigger when one of these events fires. There's also some properties. There's the first form which I18N or internationalization table are you going to use. But the login form is, but the login solution name is, remember in servoy 5.2, there's a new enhanced security scheme that requires you to have a login solution, a whole separate solution just for the login. Again, we'll cover that in a future video. Then here's that solution type like we talked about earlier, normal module web client, smart client or login. There's a text orientation which is used for international solutions. So you have left to right and right to left or low-cal specific, which means it will switch for you automatically. And the default is the default of the language that you're currently running your operating system in, in my case, it's US English. And finally, the last property is the title text. This is what's going to display in the client when the solution is launched. You can see what solutions are available on your local repository or any other repository by going to a web browser. In your browser, simply type localhost colon 8080. That's the port that servoy runs on by default, slash servoy, hyphen admin, and press return. This will show you the server homepage. Now the admin page, there's a lot of things that you can do, but I want to draw your attention into a couple of different settings. As I scroll down, there's a setting here, servoy, start repository as team provider. By default, this is set to true. If you don't want to check out solutions from a repository server, you can set this to false. We'll go ahead and talk about team sharing in greater detail in another video. There's one more thing that you can do here on the admin page that you probably want to do, and that's enter a license. You can go ahead and enter your company name, the number of licenses, and your license code. And if you press check code, this is how you enter your valid license code once you've purchased one from servoy for commercial development or commercial deployment. That's about it for this video.
