Alright, through the magic of video, I've created three more forms and I've created a relation called customers to orders. I've created a simple orders form, a simple suppliers form, and a simple products form. Now we'll come back to the customers form that we were working with earlier. I'm going to delete the beans off of there so I can drag, select, and delete. I can also remove some of these fields, again, drag, delete. And now I'm going to show you how to add a portal. What we want to do is we want to show a portal of all of the orders that this customer has. So to do that, I'm going to use the portal tool. And now this shows me all of my relationships. You must have a relationship to find in order to use a portal. Think of a portal like a grid control. So here I'm going to say, customers to orders, and this is showing me all of the columns that are in the orders table. So I'm going to choose a couple of columns here by holding down my control key. Let's get this date. Okay, so I have a couple of columns. On this one, I am going to fill in the name property, and I'm going to place them horizontally. Say, okay. Now I have this portal object here, and I can resize this portal. So make it a little bit bigger. Save it here. Now, when I view this in the Smart Client, I'm seeing all of the orders for this particular customer. And as I change records, the number of records in that portal changes. Now a portal has properties of its own. So the events on a portal are on drag, on drag over, and on drop. This allows you to drag a row at a time, and also to respond to the drag over and drop events. We'll talk more about drag and drop in a separate video. But by now, the properties should start looking fairly familiar to you. You have the anchors, background, color, border type. The initial sort is new on a portal. So if you double click that, you can choose which column you want to have the rows sorted by. The location is the same as the other objects. This line is a property that is specific to portals. This portal that we have here is basically a simple grid control. But if you didn't want to put just a grid in there, if you wanted to have a custom portal that was maybe a little bit higher that had four or five different fields in there, or you want to put graphics in there and other kinds of things, then you would use a multi-line portal. And once you use the multi-line portal, then you use that in combination with this row height property to set how tall you want the row to be. There's the name property by default. It gives it a name, whether it's printable, print sliding is the same. You can change the relationship. Right now it's showing customer to orders. By double click that, it will let me change the relationship. And then here are some interesting properties. You have reorderable and resizable. And let's see what changing those properties does in the smart client. So I've checked those properties and I'm going to save my form. And now I'm going to launch the smart client. And I've chosen them to be resizable and reorderable. This works the same both in the smart client and on the web. There's also another property that shared by portals and by table views and by list views, which is called the row background color calculation. You can create a calculation column that will highlight the rows in various colors based on either data in the fields, based on whether there are alternating rows. There's lots and lots of ways that you can shade the background color of each row in a portal. Again, you have the scroll bars, horizontal and vertical scroll bars. And you can say whether or not you want to show the horizontal and vertical lines. This is the size of the actual object. The sortable flag, let's save our form and see what that looks like. So now I can change the order. I can resize them and that sortable flag will let me now click the headers to do click sorts. And again, it works the same in the smart client as the web client. You can set the style, the tab sequence and the transparency on portal objects as well. So that's the portal object in a nutshell. Let's move this. Actually, let's just get rid of this. The next object I want to show you is the tab panel. So I'm going to place the tab panel and you can choose to place related or unrelated tabs. So what I'm going to do is I'm actually going to place more than one tab at a time. So here I'm going to place the related orders. I'm going to place the unrelated products and the unrelated suppliers. So once I click OK, we'll see that sort of was generated a tab object. I'm going to just resize this here. Let's take everything. So I can do a control A for select all. get all the objects and move them at the same time just by clicking and dragging. All right. So let's now make this object a little bit wider. And now I have, I'm going to have three tabs. I'm going to have the related orders tab contains form orders. You can set the foreground color, the image media. Now this is of the tab itself. You can set the name, the relationship, the actual text that's going to be on the tab. So I'm going to change this to orders. And you can have a rollover toolkit text. Likewise, I'm going to change this text to be products. And I'm going to change this tab to be suppliers. So now I'm going to save my form again using control S or the save icon. And we're going to open it up and client and see what we have. So now I have three tabs, orders, products and suppliers. If you notice there are six orders for this particular customer. If I change records, this customer has 14 orders. This customer has eight orders. Now if I look at the products, I can see that there's 77 products. And I'm looking at all 77 products. Same thing with the suppliers. There's 29 different suppliers. And I'm looking at all of the suppliers. So the orders is the related tab. So that will change the number of records being shown. But the product still will always show 77. And the suppliers will still always show all 29 records by default. Now you probably also notice that there are scroll boxes on here. That's because the size of this supplier's form is larger than this actual tab panel. So you can change different properties on your form to make sure that this thing never scrolls. And we'll cover those in just a second. So that's a tab panel. Now the interesting properties about the tab panel is they have their own events. So they have on tab change. Every time somebody clicks on a tab, you can run your own method. And you have the common properties as well. Anchors, background color, border type, font type, foreground color location. You have the name, printable, print sliding. The scroll tabs is a property that is unique to tab panels. If you have more tabs than you have space in the width of your tab panel, you can cause those tabs to scroll automatically. You also have the size, style, class. And tab orientation is very important on the tab panel. The default is default. So what that means is when you're running on Windows, the default position for tabs is to be on the left hand side. When you're on Mac OS, the default is for the tabs to be in the center. So choosing a default tab orientation will change the look of the based on the operating system. You also have top right, so top, and then tabs on the right. You can have tabs on the bottom, and you can have tabs on the left hand side. You can also choose to hide the tabs. So this comes in really, really handy a lot when you're doing your software development. By hiding the tabs, you can then create labels or graphics or other kinds of objects to programmatically change which tabs are viewable. So you may also want to be able to change which data is displayed or what form is displayed in that tab panel based on their permissions, based on what records are looking at, or any other kind of combination of factors. In getting back to the types of objects, there's the split pane. And a split pane really is just a tab panel, but it has a special orientation. So the orientation is split horizontal or split vertical. For this one, I'm going to go ahead and just do it with two tabs that will take off our products. And I will change the orientation to split horizontal, and let's see what that does. So I'm going to click save. And now we open up the smart client, and I have a split pane now. So I have my forms in here. These are my related orders still. And here are all of my suppliers. And this is a resizable area. And this works the same in smart client and web client. Now let's go ahead and change the orientation from split horizontal, split vertical. Save our form, view it in the smart client. And now we get the same type of thing except a split horizontally. One more thing I want to mention about tab panels is you can change the order or the default order of how the tabs appear, simply by changing the right to left order of these tabs. So in this case, now suppliers would be the first tab and orders would be the second tab. If I move suppliers to the right of the orders, then orders will be first and suppliers will be second by default. One other cool tip when dealing with tab panels, if you double click that tab, it will take you right to the form that you specified in that tab. Now let's take a look at the properties on the form itself. So to see the properties for a form, you click any place on the background of the form, and you'll notice that the properties now change to the form. And the first thing you notice is that there's a lot more properties on a form than there are on objects. And they're broken up into a couple of categories. You have commands, events, and then properties. So let's take one section at a time. First up is commands. When you launch a smart client, there are default menus. So the user can do things like find, make a new record, delete, delete all omits, show previous next sort. We look up all of these kinds of things by default. Now of course, you can programmatically alter these menus, put in your own menus. But by default, these are the types of things that the user can do on a form. There may be times where you don't want them to be able to do a find, for example. A find will blank out the form and allow them to type data into there and do a find. You may want to have a programmatic find. So you may want to disable this find command on this particular form. So to do that, come to your form and here where it says on find command, if you click, you can say none. Or the default will do the default behavior. You can also attach your own form methods or global methods or create new ones to handle that find. So in this first example, I'm going to set it to none. And when I set it to none and I save the form and I reopen the client, what you'll see now is that the find command is dimmed out or great because I set it to none. It'll make it so that they can't do that particular command. Likewise, you can do that for every single command that appears by default in that menu. So on delete all records, on delete a single record, duplicate, invert records, new next omit previous record print preview, search show all records, show them in your records and on sort. You can programmatically hijack that default functionality and do whatever it is that you want. So those are commands and they can be different for every form. Even though you may have multiple forms based on the same table. So for example, I can have another customer's form that shows something else still based on the customer's table and all of these commands can behave differently on both of those forms even though they're based on the same table. Now let's talk about events on the actual form itself. You have on drag, on drag over and on drop. These are obviously the drag and drop entry points for this form. And you have simply three methods that you need to manage for all the drag and drop interactions that you want between objects on this form. And again, we'll get into those in specific detail in another video. So you have on element focus gained and on element focus lost. You remember on a field object itself, there are events on focus gained and on focus lost. And that's for this particular object, this particular rectangle. And that's all fine and good if you want to just do something on a single field. Great. But if you wanted to do something where you for example set the background color of the active field to yellow for example, you'd have to set that on every single one of these field objects. Or you can set it once on the form object here on the on element focus gained and on element focus lost. And it would happen by default for every field or every element that was entered. So these two commands work on the form level, whereas the other ones work on the object level. And you can have any combination you want. The on hide will fire just before the form is hidden. The on load will only actually fire one time. And that is when the form is loaded for the first time. It can't also run if the form gets unloaded from memory and then reloaded later. On record edit start and on record edit stop. These two events will fire the first time they click into a field and if they change some stuff. And they tab tab tab and then they click out to commit the record. That will trigger the on record edit stop. On record selection simply means it will fire every time they change rows. So this is pretty cool because for example if you wanted to highlight the field city for every London entry for example, you could attach a method to this on record selection and say hey look, if the field city is London set the background color of this to yellow, otherwise set it to white for example. There's an on resize event that gets fired when the user resizes the window and the on show means every time this form is shown, it will fire. Regardless of how many times it's been shown in the past, it's different than the on load. On load only happens the first time it's loaded or if it's unloaded and then reloaded, it runs once the on show will run every single time this form is shown. And then you have on unload. If this needs to be unloaded from memory for whatever reason, this event will fire. Now finally let's talk about the properties. You have the border type, the default page format. So this is for printed reports. You can set whether you want it to be portrait landscape or reverse landscape. You can choose the paper size that you want it to be. You can set the margins and you can choose which kind of unit of measure you're going to use when you're specifying the margin. Here's the extends form again for the form inheritance, which will go over in a future video. You can set the initial sort. So if this is a list of you or a table view, then you can say how you want it sorted by default when it first opens. You have the name. You have a named found set. Briefly every single form that is based on this customers table will share a found set. That means if you do a find in this form for London, any other form that's based on the customers table will also have the same found set. You can choose to have a separate found set for each of your forms so that they don't unexpectedly change their found set because somebody did a find on another customer form for example. Print paper scale. This is basically the zoom level and it's a little bit counterintuitive. So a hundred percent is hundred percent, but two hundred percent will show the page at half its size. Again, you have the row background color calculation. If this is a table view or this is a list view, you can colorize each one of the rows. Scroll bars. Remember how I said that the suppliers form was too big for this tab panel that I placed it in. And so therefore it showed the vertical scroll bar. So if you go to the suppliers form and on the form you set the vertical scroll to never, then you will never get a vertical scroll bar no matter what. Show in menu. Let's see what that means. As you come over here to the smart client. Here is the window menu and you'll notice the little eye icon there. And what the little eye means is that this is the development smart client. So it will show you all of the windows. But this little eye tells you that these will be visible to the end user in their window menu. If you don't want the end user to be able to use the window menu, then you can simply uncheck this check box and it won't show up in that menu. And these are two very powerful features, style class and style name. You can have different style sheets for different forms. And you can even have different types of forms or styles of forms within that one style sheet. We'll cover styles again in a future video. This is what table it's based on. So you can double click this. It's the same list that you saw earlier, including the none option. The title text. So when this is shown in the smart client, it shows FRM customers. And if you don't want FRM customers to show, let's say we want it to be the word. Main customers form. Let's save that. And now when we view it in the smart client, we'll see it says main customers form. That's what the title text does. You can also make this form transparent. And you can set the view. So a record view is what we're looking at here. So you have one record and there's that default kind of paging thing, which you can replace or hide or just make your own graphics for. You have a list view that shows all of the things in a list. The tip is if you're going to be using the web client, the list view won't work right in the web client. So you want to use a table view if you want to show it a list. And you're writing it for just the web or you're going to use your solution, both on the smart client and the web client. Next, you have record view locked list view locked. And table view is always locked. So what does that mean? So right here, there's the view menu. So they can view it as a list, which means this is now rather than a paging, they can literally just scroll through the records here in a list type of format. And the user can change this view. If you change this to a record view locked or a list view locked, then the user cannot change the view orientation. And finally, you have the width. One thing I wanted to show you here on some of these smaller things. Of course, you have the same properties for every form. So down here on the width property, it's 314, but you can use this little arrow to resize it rather than having to type in the box. Now, there are some other things that you can do on forms that have to do with the drawing order, alignment, grouping, locking. So let's go ahead and take a look at some of those things. If you wanted to select multiple objects, you can of course do the drag select. You can also hold down your control key and select individual items. Let's go ahead and move one of these fields out of the way here. And now what we want to do is we want you align this field with the left of this field. So I'm going to hold down my control key to select both of them. And now the alignment menu highlights here so I can align the left, left sides. And now if I want to take these two, I can go ahead and control, click them and align the tops. And then I can also do things like let's take this field and move it down. I can also then take all of these fields and distribute them horizontally or vertically. So vertical centers will spread them all out upward. We'll kind of take out the space. You can also go ahead and take certain objects. So I can take those elements and group them together here by using the group. So the act is one, one unit. I can ungroup them. And then you can also change the drawing order. So right now this field, you know, price has a front to back or a Z order that's higher than this supplier ID. So I can send this to the back. So now the supplier ID is on top of it. And so this helps when you're trying to layer multiple graphics or multiple items on top of each other. Just know that you can set the Z index. And finally with forms down here, there's a number of other tabs on the bottom. Let's close this for now. I'm not going to say the changes. So down here you have parts, tab sequence and security. Let's first take a look at the parts. Let's hide this. So by default, all forms have a body part. And that body part is this section here where the main of the record is. You can have other parts on there too. You can have a title header, a header, a leading grand summary, a leading sub summary, trailing sub summaries. And these aren't basically used when you're either creating reports or a header. For example, if you want to have a table view and have custom headers rather than that grid heading, when you're building a report, for example, you may want a title header part to be on the first page and then the header or each subsequent page. You may also want to summarize the data. So for example, you may have a report that you want to create that groups all of the customers by city. So you can have a leading sub summary that will put the city name before the data. You can have a trailing sub summary that goes after the body where you can have the number of customers in that city, for example. And to have a leading sub summary or a trailing sub summary or a leading grand summary or trailing grand summary to have one of these sub summary parts, you need to have group by fields. So if I wanted to break it by city so that I can summarize it by city, that would be the break field. And for this report to work correctly, what you want to do is you want to sort it by city and then preview this form. And serve, well, automatically create the right summarizations for you. There are other options that you can have here where you can break the page before every occurrence. So if you wanted to have a new page every time there was a different city, you can check this option. You if you wanted to break it after every third occurrence or fifth occurrence, you can also restart the page numbers after each occurrence. And you can also allow a body part, for example, to break across page boundaries. So the first half would be on page one and the second half would be on page two. Once you add parts, you can drag around the part height here, just by clicking it and moving it and moving things into different locations. You can also delete parts. Let's take everything off here. Let's take it off. And so it's just the body now. So we have just our one part, which is the body part. Now let's talk about tab sequence by default. The tab sequence is the order by which you place the fields onto the form. If you wanted to have a custom tab order or you want to exclude items from the tab order, you can modify it. So if you notice here we have the custom ID, then it goes to the button, then it goes to the address. Then it goes to the city and finally goes to the tabs. Well, let's say that we wanted to take the button off. We wanted to take the tab out of the tab order and we want to take the custom right of the tab order. So if you do that and you save the form, when you open it up in the smart client and you click and address and you hit tab, it will go through the tabs in the way that you expect it to. And finally, the security tab. What this will allow you to do is to make certain elements on this form, viewable and or accessible to the different groups. And again, it will cover security in a separate video. As you can see, there are lots of things that you can do with forms and form objects in Sirboy.
